Sony Ericsson Xperia Arc S? Move over. Because Sony Xperia S is just hanging around the corner. With a 1.5GHz dual core, 12MP camera, 720p screen.Surely will boost all your android expectation.Previously known as Nozomi and arc HD, the Xperia S will become Sony's first dual-core smartphone and probably the first one to bear the Sony standalone logo. As you should be well aware Sony acquired Ericsson's share in their joint venture company, but the deal is still pending regulatory approval. As you will prbably notice some of the units are branded Sony only, while others still use the old Sony Ericsson logo. It's been extensively leaked for a few months, but now the Sony Ericsson "Nozomi" has an official name -- the Sony Xperia S. As with the Xperia Ion, the Sony Ericsson name has been dropped in favor of the new Sony Xperia branding. Most of the specs from the Xperia Ion have been carried over to the Xperia S, with the notable exception being LTE support -- the Xperia S is a HSPA-only device.

As we expected, the display quality is as good as on the Xperia ion's and one of the best in the non-AMOLED class. The colors are vibrant, contrast is good and images really come to life on this thing. The Xperia S will arrive globally in March. Join us after the jump for the full press release, along with promotional videos and photos.

The new Xperia S enables easy connectivity with multiple screens for consumers looking to share and enjoy content on whichever screen best suits their situation, whether it’s TV, smartphone, laptop or tablet. Consumers can watch their favourite content from the Sony Entertainment Network by connecting their Xperia S through HMDI to TV or share photos wirelessly with just one touch. Xperia S is also NFC (near field communication) enabled to allow consumers to share content with each other as well as enjoying an increasing number of NFC applications and services.

Xperia S will be able to access the richest entertainment experiences from Sony Entertainment Network**. Music Unlimited offers a global catalogue of 12 million unique songs while Video Unlimited has the latest Hollywood blockbusters and TV shows from all major studios***.

The user interface has been redesigned to match the minimalistic design of the hardware. The home screen has a new colorful flow background making full usage of HD Reality Display and dual-core processing power. The Xperia S is running on Android Gingerbread and it handles is hassle-free, but we are really hoping that Sony will deliver on its promise to bring Ice Cream Sandwich soon after launch.

Xperia S will be available to consumers globally from the first quarter 2012. Launching on Android platform 2.3 (Gingerbread) Xperia S will be upgraded to Android platform 4.0 (Ice Cream Sandwich) during the second quarter 2012. Early March.

Happy Days are coming to an end. All Android Rooters and Apple Jailbreakers. This is because Rooting and Jailbreaking Waivers Set to Expire this 2012.In 2010, the US Copyright Office added an exemption to the DMCA, which fully legalized rooting, jailbreaking, unlocking and whatever else you do with your smartphone that is not intended by their manufacturers. While that was certainly good for modders and hackers, of which there are plenty in our forums, exemptions only last for three years and therefore must be renewed before they expire. The Electronic Frontier Foundation (EFF) is now petitioning to do exactly that.

Before you get too upset over this, it’s worth pointing out that rooting and jailbreaking will not immediately become illegal should the exemption really expire. Instead, such activities would fall in a gray area, as The Verge notes, since device manufacturers could argue that they circumvent copyright protection measures – something ASUS, for instance, cited as their reason for locking the Transformer Prime bootloader.

Still, xda-developers believes that if you bought a device, it’s yours to do whatever you want to do with it. No matter whether it’s a smartphone, tablet, or heck, even a game console. Fundamentally, it simply doesn’t make sense: Imagine if you bought a table, but find that it is too high. So, you decide to cut off the legs a bit – imagine if that was not allowed. That’s exactly what we’re doing here: We find that the software that ships on our devices is arbitrarily limited, and thus modify it to add features, remove features, and whatnot.

If you believe in this fundamental freedom too, visit the EFF to read up about what to do to prevent the exmption from expiring; you can sign the petition or, before February 10, submit a comment to the US Copyright Office.
Wouldn't it be absolutely splendid if you could hand your phone over to a friend (or complete stranger) without fear of them mucking up your system or digging into your personal bits? Yes, we'd absolutely love to see guest accounts become standard issue on all handsets, but until that day arrives, a new application called SwitchMe will work in a pinch. Word of caution, this app requires root privileges, which may deter many folks.

The epic tale of Dungeon Hunter continues, opening a wide new world for you to explore and conquer in this thrilling action RPG. Journey back to Gothicus, 25 years after the events of the first game, as the son of the immortal king. Uncover the mystery of the plot against your kingdom as you hack your way through larger dungeons and more ferocious monsters than ever before. But a hero is only as strong as the warriors by his side: team up with up to 3 fellow hunters and rise through the online leaderboards. Together, there’s no dungeon you can’t clear!

Dispel the darkness in your realm, uncover your memory about terrible events and fight the evil queen who tyrannizes the kingdom the queen you loved. Dungeon Hunter is a 3D epic quest set in a dark fantasy world, in the tradition of the most successful action RPGs.

Dungeon Hunter 2 is an excellent Diablo style RPG for select Android devices. Since it is produced by Gameloft it is only available to select devices and through select app stores. Dungeon Hunter 2 is played from an aerial third person perspective and features customizable skill trees, three different playable characters, massive dungeons, varying armor types and qualities, plus online multiplayer.

The graphics for the levels, the characters, and the cut-scenes are stupendous! One thing I have to give Gameloft is that they spend a lot of time and money producing their games and normally their products take first when it comes to getting the highest production value out of this years current hardware; which Dungeon Hunter is no exception for that rule. If you want a console quality experience on a handheld then look no farther than Gameloft.

Gameloft makes excellent games and always produces incredible and virtually unrivaled worlds with luscious graphics, intricate stories, and high levels of customization. Unfortunately, this game is really pricey and can be only downloaded from Gameloft directly or through Vcast Apps. This means you can only use this game on one device and cannot share it with other phones or tablets. I was also extremely unhappy with the online multiplayer login process. Whatever you do… don’t use capitals in your username

Guess who's back? HP today announced how developers will be getting access to the WebOS code that they're all after, according to The Verge. HP says that WebOS will be renamed to "Open WebOS 1.0" to mark the first open source release, and the company is making available the Enyo application framework code today to developers.

HP went on to say that they're planning on major releases for WebOS almost every month for the next six or seven months, which will "change up" the WebOS internals in a big way, apparently. The Verge points out that the biggest change is likely the switch to a standard Linux kernel, which will make WebOS work on a wider variety of hardware.Starting today, HP is releasing the Enyo 2.0 framework that will allow the developers to create applications for the platform. Unlike the previous version, 2.0 supports browsers other than those using the WebKit engine for creating apps. HP will also be using a standard Linux kernel, like on Android, that should allow the OS to run on a wider range of hardware.

WebOS will move to the Apache 2.0 licence, and HP said that "it provides a legal framework that balances open innovation and a dependable user experience, which is consistent with HP's vision for webOS." They also say that it'll be possible for developers to get early Open WebOS builds onto their Touchpads during the year, however end users can expect their first taste in late summer.

Finally, HP said that they're looking at "all" WebOS devices to see if they're able to make Open WebOS available to them. If you bought the original Palm Pre, chin up! You may have a shiny new OS soon.
Samsung Galaxy S III is rumored to be company's next flagship. It is said that it will run Android 4.0, under the hood will be a Samsung developed 1.8GHz quad-core CPU with 2GB of RAM, 32GB of internal memory and a microSD slot aboard. The screen will be 4.65 inches of Super AMOLED III delight. Super AMOLED III,

Samsung has yet not made an official announcement about launching Samsung Galaxy S3, but there are several instances that indicates the launch of S3. The recent Samsung processor developments that includes announcing several new Exynos dual-core processor during the end of 2011 indicates that Galaxy S3 will be also powered with the same. February’s Mobile World Congress event is on its way and all big players like Samsung, HTC, Nokia etc are ready to release their latest phones in the market. As a trend it is expected that the phone will be first launched in UK, US and then to the rest of the world.

The Samsung Galaxy S III (or lack of it) has the Internet ablaze once again, and this time it's based on some information industry insider Eldar Murtazin claims to know, and has hinted at in his Twitter account.  According to Eldar (and nestled in with words like "flagship" and "so much better"), the next-generation Galaxy S device will feature updated hardware with a 1.5GHz or 1.6GHz quad-core processor, a 12MP camera, HD screen (we're assuming it will be part of the AMOLED family), Ice Cream Sandwich with Samsung's TouchWiz tweaks, and it gets great battery life -- yes, he says he has used it.

Rumored Specifications:

3D Smartphone
Some Korean reporters also suggest that it will be called Samsung Galaxy S3D instead of Galaxy S3 as it will be a 3D smartphone. You will be able to watch 3D movies and can enjoy 3D games on Galaxy S3 very conveniently. It is also expected that Samsung will include 3D glasses in accessories with the phone.

Processor
Samsung has officially revealed its work on the dual-core Exynos 4212, a dual-core ARM9 chipset that’s claimed to be 30% more efficient and substantially faster than the processor of Galaxy S2. Exynos 4212 is powered with 1.8 GHz CPU speed.

Memory
The industry benchmark these days is 1GB RAM, so Samsung S3 being the top on the ladder is providing double of it i.e. 2GB RAM. Internal storage of the phone is expected to be 16GB. 16GB, I am really not sure how many of you will really need a external storage after this.

Display
Samsung Galaxy S3 will be featured with 4.6″ Super AMOLED Plus 3D screen. Galaxy S2 has 4.3″ screen, HTC Sensation XL being 4.7″, Galaxy Nexus being 4.65″ and Galaxy Note having 5.3″. Galaxy S3 will not be having a screen equivalent to Galaxy Note, otherwise you will need a stylus for this too so 4.6″ is very optimum.
Features of Samsung S3 in a nutshell
4.6″ 1280×720 Super AMOLED Plus 3D Screen
Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich
2GB RAM (four times the RAM in iPhone 4S)
12MP W750 BSI CMOS Camera with 1080p Recording with awfully-bright dual-LED flash
2 megapixel front-facing camera
16 or 32 Gb of internal memory
USB 3.0 capability
4G LTE right off the bat
1.8GHz Quadcore Samsung Exynos CPU
9mm thick body
Touchwhiz 5.0 overlay

See Top Android phones As of early 2012.   This list has been chosen as of most search on google and most talk about on the techlandiaOne of the first things people look to nowadays when they want to buy a new phone is the Smartphone category. Everyone has one and most people feel like they can`t live without them. This is simply because of their usability and versatility,
Smartphones are similar in power to a tablet, although smaller and tables are the next thing down from laptops and arguably better in many ways. So many look towards the top range and more common phones, yet this is not all there is. Samsung offers a wide range of Smartphone's, many of which still hold the Galaxy tagline as Samsung`s premier phone models. These may be slightly less powerful and have a duller screen but they are still just as useful and they still all run Android. Because of this all of them should be a keen consideration in the field of new mobile phones.

Quick Reboot

If your device locks up, rather than having to remove the battery,

press and hold the power button for 8-10 seconds. The device will then reboot automatically.

Rebooting in Safe Mode
If you are having lots of problems with Force Closes and cant get to any menus because of it.

You can reboot in safe mode and then tackle the problem.

Power off the phone. Power on the phone and when you see the Splash screen (SGS2 Logo)

hit menu fast repeatedly until you get to the home screen. If it worked you will see safe mode in the bottom left corner.

To exit safe mode just reboot normally.

Quick search

Hold down the menu key (not the home button, the capacitive key to the left) to enable quick searching.

Works on the home screens to search google, will allow for searching in the marketplace, youtube, messaging etc.

This works on all Samsung Android handsets without a dedicated search key.

Quick Mute

If you have forgotten to put your phone on silent, and it starts making a noise at the worst possible moment,

don't fumble for a suitable key sequence to turn off sound,

simply place a finger over the external speaker slots which you will find if you turn the phone over,

at the bottom right corner. Roughly behind the virtual "menu" button when viewed from the front.

Of course, just flipping it onto its face often does the trick too (if it's an incoming call for example),

but it's useful to have a backup trick that can be executed quickly in a tight spot.

Brightness Adjustment Shortcut

On the Homescreen, long hold on the Notification Bar,

then slide left or right motion to adjust the brightness.

* SAVING BATTERY *

Settings > wireless & networks > Mobile Networks > Use 2G Networks Only

Disable Background data,

Settings > Accounts and Sync > deselect the checkmark for Background Data.

Settings > Display > Set auto brighness to OFF.

And just push the brightness slider right down.

Stop using Live Wallpapers, and use BLACK BACKGROUND on all of your Homscreens.

because how brighter and more colorfull the more pixels are used, this then affects battery life.

Applications > Task Mangaer > Close All applications

WiFi Sleep Policy

You can save on wifi eating up your battery by specifying a Sleep Mode policy.

Menu > Settings > Wireless and network > WiFi settings > Menu > Advanced > WiFi Sleep policy

Here you can select when to turn off wifi temporarily:

1. When screen turns off

2. Never when plugged in

3. Never

For me, I will just turn it on, when needed.

Learn to charge properly!

There is no need to always top off the battery to a full charge whenever you get a chance,

rather use the battery to its fullest as in draining it from your usage then charging it back up several times.

This is more of a maintenance thing for your battery to establish itself sort of and it’ll do better for your Galaxy S2 in the long run

Rooting is basically a process where the access to system level files is given to the third party custom ROMs or the files so that the required customization can be made. Only rooting makes it possible to customize the phone the way you want to. So, let’s proceed and check out the merits and demerits below.

Merits of Rooting:

There are many advantages of rooting which we have mentioned in the below list.
Rooting allows you to convert the current laggy file system of RFS to the faster EXT4 file system,
It also allows you to remove the default applications which comes pre-loaded,
It allows you to install the custom firmwares as well as the beta Stock ROMs from different country un officially.

De Merits of Rooting:

If rooting process is not followed properly then you may even brick the device,
Rooting voids the warranty, though can be regained by updating with the default firmware.

Download this file contains necessary files and also lastest samsung drivers in
case you dont have them, probably you need android sdk drivers for fastboot

Download <----Down load here

credit to @peteralfonso for the insecure boot.img which allows this to remount
system and this way install su binary and Superuser.apk

This are the instructions for Galaxy Nexus

they require basic knowledge of fastboot adb and using command
prompt/terminal

works same way on linux and windows

Be sure to have fastboot and adb ready and working

extract somewhere and you will get 4 files su, Superuser.apk , boot.img and
drivers

turn off the phone

Boot into bootloader mode (Vol UP+ Vol Down + Power) then execute this
command, be sure to have fastboot and boot.img on same folder or be ready
to type a long path pointing to your boot.img

REMINDER: by doing fastboot oem unlock you will completely wipe your device
so be sure to backup anything important

execute this command

Code:
fastboot oem unlock

fastboot boot boot.img

edit: thanks chirality forgot the oem unlock

the device will reboot and start in unsafe mode where you can enable adb
as root usually on production devices this is not posible

Be sure to enable adb debugging on menu

back to command prompt

Code:

adb root

adb remount

adb push su /system/bin

adb push Superuser.apk /system/app

adb shell chmod 06755 /system/bin/su

adb shell chmod 06755 /system/app/Superuser.apk

adb reboot

and you are done and youve got your Galaxy Nexus rooted

This process does not involve flashing another boot.img, it just boots once
with it and after that returns to original boot.img

YOU ARE PERFORMING THIS AT YOUR OWN RISK! I AM NOT RESPOSIBLE FOR ANY BRICKS OR
PROBLEMS!   Credits To Xda Developer
